HFCL secures Rs 67 cr order for optical fiber cables, also expands capacities

HFCL, a provider of communication network solutions, has secured a new order valued at Rs 67 crore for the supply of Optical Fiber Cables (OFC) from a prominent domestic telecom service provider in India, as stated in a press release.
Scheduled for completion by April 2024, the order entails HFCL delivering various types of optical fiber cables tailored to meet the customer's specifications.
The company highlighted the escalating demand for OFCs in India, attributing it to the country's substantial digitisation efforts, including the fiberisation initiative under the BharatNet program and the deployment of 4G and 5G networks by telecom operators. The recent Cabinet approval of an additional Rs 1.39 lakh crore for the ambitious BharatNet project, aimed at providing rural broadband connectivity, is expected to further fuel the demand for Optical Fiber Cables in the nation, according to the firm's statement.
HFCL recently announced its expansion plans, intending to increase its optic fibre capacity from the current 12 million fkm to 33 million fkm and elevate high-quality optical fibre cable capacity from 25 million fkm to 35 million fkm by March 2025. The company asserts a market share of over 50% in India for OFC in the fiscal year 2023.
With a focus on addressing evolving customer needs in both Indian and global markets, HFCL aims to leverage its indigenous innovation and research and development capabilities.
In a bid to accelerate the installation of 5G network infrastructure, expand FTTH capabilities, and meet the growing demand from data centres, HFCL recently introduced the 1728-high fiber count IBR cable during IMC 2023.
