Lokesh Machines, a Hyderabad-based machine tool manufacturer, set up a new subsidiary for the production of defence and aerospace components. The first phase of the company's investment in Hyderabad's greenfield facility will be more than Rs 100 crore, which will be used to manufacture guns and their accessories. As exports start in the future, this investment will be expanded even more.

Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister of India and former chairman, DRDO, inaugurated the new manufacturing division at the Outer Suburb of Hyderabad, Medchal, Telangana. With the help of the Indian Army and ARDE (a division of DRDO), the business has successfully built small guns. The MHA and other Military have thoroughly tested these weapons. The trials have been successful, and it has been suggested further purchase and exploitation.

It is essential that a progressive country like India be self-sufficient to face various threats. The defence and aerospace division has been set up to explore contributions in security, said M Srinivas, Director, Lokesh Machines. The company is also creating a vendor near its facility to develop an ecosystem of vendors and handhold them for developing precision parts for the small arms. The new facility's commercial production is anticipated to start soon.
