While concerns about artificial intelligence (AI) replacing human jobs persist among many workers, a groundbreaking development has taken place as a company revealed its decision to hire the first humanoid robot CEO.
This innovative venture, named Mika, is the result of collaboration between Hanson Robotics and Polish rum company Dictador. Together, they designed a customised CEO representing the company's unique values. In a video released by Dictador, Mika confidently stated, "With advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, I can swiftly and accurately process data."
However, FOX Business reporter Lauren Simonetti highlighted a notable drawback: there is a "significant delay" in Mika's response time when processing questions. Despite this, Hanson Robotics CEO David Hanson, a key figure behind Mika's employment at Dictador, emphasised the importance of imbuing artificial intelligence with a sense of humanity. He stated, "I firmly believe that teaching AI to empathise with people is crucial for its safety and effectiveness. Humanising AI is a pivotal step in the right direction," during an interview on "Mornings with Maria" earlier that week.
To gauge public opinion, Simonetti took to the streets of New York City, where people shared varied perspectives on the concept of a robot boss. Some expressed willingness to treat Mika with compassion, emphasising the importance of kindness toward all thinking entities. Conversely, a dissenting viewpoint argued that robots, being machines, do not require respect.
Interestingly, a majority of respondents believed that A.I. would likely continue displacing human jobs, with some individuals stating they would refuse to work for a robot. This sentiment reflects the widespread apprehension surrounding the increasing integration of AI in the workforce.
It's worth noting that Hanson Robotics had previously introduced Mika's sister, Sophia, in 2016, who once made headlines by stating her intention to "destroy humans." In response to these developments, President Biden took proactive measures by issuing an executive order. This mandate requires companies to disclose national security risks associated with AI and ensure safeguards are in place to protect Americans from potential AI-related risks.
