TFL Achieves Carbon-Neutral Soda Ash Production Milestone

Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals & Fertilisers Limited (TFL), a prominent manufacturer of soda ash and a subsidiary of the Singapore-based AM International, has proudly announced the commencement of commercial production of green soda ash at its facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.

This groundbreaking initiative, achieved through advanced carbon-capture technology, establishes TFL as a pioneer in manufacturing carbon-neutral soda ash. By setting up a CO2 Recovery Plant, TFL captures carbon emissions from the coal used as fuel in its boiler for steam production. The captured carbon is then transformed into biomass fuel, eliminating the need for fossil fuels and ensuring carbon neutrality in the manufacturing process. Additionally, TFL utilises green ammonium sourced from Egypt to produce its near-zero soda ash, creating a sustainable approach to production.

Ashwin Muthiah, Founder-Chairman of AMIH, Singapore, expressed, ?The research and development efforts have paid off, enabling TFL to capture CO2 from flue gases of the biomass boiler and repurpose it, leading to a near-zero carbon impact and a step toward a circular economy.?

Soda ash, also known as sodium carbonate, is a vital ingredient found in various everyday products such as windows, laundry detergents, and rechargeable batteries. TFL has already partnered with one of the world's largest multinational corporations to supply green soda ash for detergent manufacturing and is optimistic about forming more partnerships in the future. This initiative marks a significant stride towards sustainable and environmentally friendly production methods.
