VinFast (part of Vingroup JSC—one of Vietnam’s largest conglomerates) today inaugurated its electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India. This development marks a significant milestone in VinFast’s global growth journey, highlighting its sustained commitment to the world’s third-largest automotive market and India’s pivotal role in the EV sector’s future.

VinFast Tamil Nadu is the firm’s third active production facility and its fifth global manufacturing initiative. As the first site launched beyond Vietnam, it reflects VinFast’s global ambitions and ability to execute large-scale, high-impact projects.

Spanning 400 acres, the facility incorporates advanced production lines, aligned with international benchmarks, and featuring automation and cutting-edge technology. The site includes Body Shop, Paint Shop, Assembly Shop, Quality Control Centre, and a Logistics Hub, along with an auxiliary zone earmarked for local vendor expansion in the coming years.

When fully operational, the plant will generate 3,000 to 3,500 direct employment opportunities, plus thousands more indirectly via the wider supply chain, contributing to Tamil Nadu’s socio-economic progress and reinforcing its role as a manufacturing and prospective EV hub for South Asia.

Initially, the plant will assemble two premium electric SUVs—the VF 7 and VF 6. Its starting production capacity of 50,000 units annually is scalable to 150,000 to accommodate surging demand.

This launch moves VinFast closer to achieving its 2025 target of 200,000 vehicles and long-term ambition of producing 1 million units yearly by 2030. The plant reflects VinFast’s enduring focus on sustainable mobility and its role in shaping a greener future in India and beyond.

At the inauguration, Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, stated: “The VinFast Tamil Nadu facility represents a major step in our commitment to India. It sets the foundation for sustainable expansion and enables us to deliver high-quality, competitively priced EVs to Indian buyers.

We plan to scale operations further, transforming this plant into VinFast’s largest export hub serving South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. We've already secured early orders from several countries across these regions. Working closely with the Tamil Nadu government, we aim to help establish the region as the ‘EV capital of South Asia’—serving both domestic and regional demand.”

VinFast Tamil Nadu enhances the company’s international manufacturing reach while actively contributing to India’s green industrial shift. The facility will collaborate with Indian suppliers to advance localisation, facilitate technology exchange, and elevate workforce skills.

Since entering the Indian market, VinFast has pursued a holistic EV ecosystem covering assembly, sales, service, and recycling. The Tamil Nadu plant is a cornerstone of this strategy. Simultaneously, VinFast has formed partnerships with dealer groups in key cities and teamed up with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure to build a comprehensive digital and after-sales service network. The company also collaborates with BatX Energies on battery recovery and reuse, promoting circular production in India’s expanding EV landscape.

VinFast is a dedicated electric vehicle manufacturer aiming to democratise access to EVs. Its current portfolio includes electric SUVs, e-scooters, and e-buses. VinFast is now in a rapid expansion phase, scaling manufacturing and distribution globally with a sharp focus on North America, Europe, and Asia.
