Tata's Rs 60 billion Hosur facility to start iPhone production in November 24

Tata Electronics' new iPhone manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, is set to begin production in November 2024, according to a report from Business Standard. The 250-acre facility is Apple's fourth assembly plant in India and Tata's second dedicated to producing iPhones for the U.S.-based tech giant.
The Hosur plant is expected to house around 20 assembly lines and aims to employ approximately 50,000 workers, predominantly women, within the next two years. The plant will be second in staff size only to Foxconn's iPhone facility in Tamil Nadu.
Preparations are reportedly well underway, with components from Tata's existing factory, established in 2021, already being used in some iPhone models manufactured in India and exported to China. The new facility is undergoing equipment and production line stress tests to meet the anticipated high demand.
This expansion aligns with Apple Inc.'s broader strategy to increase its manufacturing presence in India. The Hosur plant is a key part of this initiative, contributing to the company’s efforts to diversify its supply chain beyond China by enhancing its collaboration with Tata Electronics.
Tata has been actively expanding its partnership with Apple, moving beyond traditional sectors to increase its involvement in high-tech manufacturing. The group has already scaled up employment at its current Hosur facility, which produces iPhone enclosures, and plans to launch 100 retail outlets dedicated to Apple products across India. Simultaneously, Apple has opened two stores in India, with plans for three more.
Neither Apple nor Tata Electronics responded to queries regarding the new facility.
