Sagar Defence partners with Boeing to manufacture advanced sea drones in India

Mumbai-based Sagar Defence Engineering has partnered with Boeing's Liquid Robotics for the joint development and production of uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) systems. This collaboration aligns with the US-India Defence Industrial Cooperation roadmap and aims to bolster undersea domain awareness and maritime security for India, the US, and their global partners. The co-produced USVs are expected to be ready by 2025.

Nikunj Parashar, Co-founder, Sagar Defence, emphasised the strategic significance of this partnership, stating that it highlights the capabilities of Indian defence firms in achieving global benchmarks. He added that the collaboration supports India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliance) vision and advances regional and global maritime security.

Salil Gupte, President, Boeing India, reiterated Boeing's commitment to enhancing India’s defence self-reliance through local partnerships. He noted that Boeing has built strong local capabilities in manufacturing, engineering, and design in India, positioning the company well for future collaborations.

Shane Goodenough, CEO, Liquid Robotics, expressed enthusiasm for working with Sagar Defence, stating, "The Wave Glider is an ideal system to strengthen US-India defence cooperation and enhance tactical readiness in the Indo-Pacific region." He added that this partnership marks a new chapter in bilateral defence ties and expands Wave Glider operations in India.
