JSW collaborates with Coolbrook for low carbon emission tech in Vijayanagar Plant

The JSW Group announced its collaboration with Coolbrook, a Finland-based company, to integrate a low carbon emission technology into its Vijayanagar plant in Karnataka.

JSW Group revealed in a statement that this partnership stemmed from Coolbrook's successful completion of the initial phase of large-scale pilot tests for RotoDynamic Technology at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in the Netherlands in 2023.

The collaboration aims to implement Coolbrook's RotoDynamic Heater (RDH) Technology at JSW's manufacturing sites, specifically at Vijayanagar Works in Karnataka. The primary objective is to achieve reduced CO2 emissions in the production processes of steel and cement.

According to JSW Group, the RDH technology utilises renewable electricity to power high-temperature industrial processes, notably in steel and cement production. This approach significantly diminishes the reliance on burning fossil fuels.

P K Murugan, President at JSW Steel Vijayanagar and Salem Works, anticipates that the deployment of RDH Technology will have a substantial impact on the group's manufacturing process's decarbonisation.

Joonas Rauramo, CEO of Coolbrook, highlighted that their patented electric technology plays a crucial role in achieving significant decarbonisation in steel production by minimising the necessity to burn fossil fuels. The JSW Group, with a diversified portfolio and a value of USD 23 billion, operates in various sectors, including energy, infrastructure, cement, paints, sports, and venture capital.
