IIT Madras showcases cutting-edge projects at research conclave

At the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, a total of 73 projects employing cutting-edge technology were presented to industry professionals and investors. These projects included innovations such as fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles designed for military surveillance, a solar-powered race car, and autonomous underwater vehicles for oceanographic exploration. The event was organised by students at the institute's Centre for Innovation and showcased the work of more than 800 students from 14 technical clubs and seven competition teams.

During the research conclave, prototypes developed by the Centre for Innovation competition teams over the past six months were exhibited at the 'competition team demo day' event. Among the showcased prototypes were a CFI guide robot, clean energy marine vessels, a Braille book emulator, and sound-scaping spectacles designed for the auditory-impaired.

The Centre for Innovation (CFI) offers students access to funding and advanced facilities, including 3D printers, laser cutters, and electronic workstations. Over the years, CFI has been instrumental in the development of over 100 patents and numerous student-led startups in fields such as AI, robotics, biotechnology, electronics, and other technology-driven sectors.

Prabhu Rajagopal, the advisor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the institute, emphasised the significance of the conclave as a mid-year review of the social and innovative projects at CFI. This year, the institute also organised 'Triumph,' recognising competition teams that had achieved acclaim at international events over the past two months.

The event not only encouraged innovation but also provided students with valuable industry guidance and financial support from experts and professors. This support enables students to apply their work in real-world scenarios. The second edition of the research conclave took place recently, further strengthening the institute's commitment to fostering creativity and technological advancement.
