IGSS plans major expansion to meet rising sunroof demand in India

Inalfa Gabriel Sunroof Systems Private Limited (IGSS), a joint venture between Inalfa Roof Systems and Gabriel India Limited, has plans to expand its manufacturing operations across India to cater to the surging demand for sunroofs. With the Indian sunroof market projected to grow by 40 per cent by 2029, IGSS aims to solidify its leadership by establishing new facilities closer to key automotive hubs in Northern and Western India.

The announcement was made by Anjali Singh, Executive Chairperson, Anand Group, during the first anniversary of IGSS’s Chennai facility. The plant, which produced 130,000 sunroofs in 2024, is nearing full capacity, necessitating the expansion. Singh emphasised the need to position operations closer to customers, particularly in regions witnessing robust automotive activity.
“To meet the rising demand for sunroofs due to the greater premiumisation of the auto sector, IGSS is looking to expand beyond Chennai to other auto hubs, namely the West and North,” Singh said.

Currently, the Chennai facility supplies sunroofs to automotive giants like Hyundai Motor India and Kia India. The growing demand for premium features such as panoramic views and smart glass technology, coupled with the popularity of SUVs and improved highway networks, has driven sunroof adoption in India.

Jagdish Kumar, Chairman, IGSS, highlighted this growth, stating, “IGSS is well-positioned to leverage this demand and continue its leadership in the sunroof sector.”

India’s expanding automotive market is central to IGSS’s growth strategy. Georges Andary, CEO, Inalfa Roof Systems, described India as "one of the largest and most dynamic automotive markets," underlining its strategic importance for the company.

The Chennai facility was established with support from Tamil Nadu’s investor-friendly policies, enabling IGSS to tap into the country’s burgeoning passenger vehicle market. The planned expansions will allow the company to strengthen its footprint and contribute further to India's evolving automotive landscape.

As the demand for premium automotive features accelerates, IGSS’s strategic expansions position it to capitalise on the growth of the Indian sunroof market while reinforcing India’s role in the global automotive industry.
