GreenLine plans Rs 5,000 cr investment in Eco-Friendly Truck Fleet Expansion

Green mobility solutions provider GreenLine is set to embark on a substantial expansion of its logistics services operations, investing around Rs 850 crore to incorporate 1,000 liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks into its fleet within this financial year. Additionally, the company plans to invest over Rs 4,000 crore in FY25 to expand its LNG truck deployment by another 5,000 units. GreenLine, a part of the Essar Group, is dedicated to decarbonising heavy trucking in India, a goal that has garnered significant interest from industrial players and corporates keen on advancing their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives.

According to GreenLine CEO Anand Mimani, the company currently operates 250 LNG-powered trucks for managing client logistics and aims to deploy 1,000 more LNG-powered trucks by March 2024, with the potential for an additional 5,000 trucks by FY25. The company plans to make a substantial investment of about Rs 85 lakh for each truck. The total investment for acquiring a fleet of 6,000 LNG trucks, at an average cost of Rs 85 lakh per truck, amounts to over Rs 5,000 crore. GreenLine's fleet consists of cutting-edge LNG-powered trucks manufactured by Blue Energy Motors, which significantly reduce emissions, including carbon dioxide, sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter.

GreenLine's LNG trucks have a range of 1,400 km on a single fill and have reduced noise levels by 30% compared to diesel vehicles. The company's customers, including prominent names like Dalmia Cement, JK Lakshmi Cement, Nestle, Delhivery, JSW, and JSPL, have responded positively to its eco-friendly initiatives. GreenLine ensures that its customers transition to greener options without incurring additional costs compared to diesel prices. In addition to expanding its LNG truck fleet, GreenLine is also exploring the deployment of electric trucks for short-haul operations. Furthermore, the company is optimistic about expanding the deployment of LNG trucks with the establishment of 10 LNG retail stations across India by the end of the fiscal year through its sister firm, Ultra Gas and Energy. GreenLine's LNG truck fleet comprises 55-tonne vehicles with a payload capacity of 40 tonnes and is equipped with a 400 kg fuel tank capable of holding LNG worth approximately Rs 35,000.
