ENGEL Showcases AI-Driven Injection Moulding and Automation at Plast 2026

ENGEL presents innovation as a dialogue with industry at Plast 2026, offering an integrated ecosystem of solutions, digital assistants, AI-based systems, and automation to enhance efficiency, value, and quality in manufacturing processes. For injection moulders, this means stabilised production, reduced scrap, optimised resource use, and improved cost efficiency across diverse applications.

The current challenge in injection moulding is efficiency alongside consistent quality and full cost control amid complex variables. From automotive to medical, packaging to technical moulding, companies seek solutions that transform complexity into measurable results. ENGEL treats innovation as a language for interpreting industry needs and engaging with evolving production environments to deliver tangible value.

Central to the booth, the Expert Corner exemplifies this ecosystem approach. The space goes beyond a conventional exhibition, acting as a gateway to expertise, applications, and production scenarios. Visitors explore real cases and configurations to understand how machines, automation, and digital intelligence combine to deliver consistent, measurable results. The corner enables processors to transfer application know-how into their production environment, selecting suitable production solutions, automation strategies, and digital tools for efficiency, quality, and stability. Innovation is positioned as a method, orchestrating technologies for clear outcomes.

Process control demonstrates tangible innovation. Every project in the Expert Corner uses integrated optimisation, covering the full production system and dynamic process parameter management via the inject AI framework. Digitalisation simplifies machine operation and extends performance. Intelligent assistants adjust processes automatically:

  • iQ weight control maintains consistent part quality, compensating for material and viscosity fluctuations, reducing weight dispersion by 85%.
  • iQ clamp control optimises clamping force, lowering energy consumption by up to 10% and protecting the mould.
  • iQ flow control stabilises mould temperature, achieving up to 18% energy savings.
  • iQ process observer analyses over 1,000 parameters, detects deviations in real time, and recommends corrective actions, preventing scrap. ENGEL’s autonomous injection moulding machine, unveiled at K 2025, demonstrates this self-regulating process.

The all-electric e-mac 80 autonomous production cell adapts in real time to changing conditions. The ENGEL Virtual Assistant (EVA) supports engineers and operators with guidance, troubleshooting, and technical information, accelerating decisions, reducing downtime, and providing expert knowledge access when experienced personnel are unavailable. Operators define quality requirements, while machines automatically adjust parameters, reducing scrap, energy use, and set-up times, balancing human expertise with digital intelligence.

ENGEL Italy Master Trainers host scheduled and one-to-one sessions on inject AI digital assistants, enabling visitors to explore applications, discuss real-world cases, and assess efficiency improvements, process stability, and workload reduction in their own plants.

Two fully automated cells showcase practical applications. One focuses on lightweight drone rotor blades using tape-sandwich technology with thermoplastic composites. The ENGEL victory 120 tie-bar-less injection moulding machine and easix articulated arm robot manage the continuous in-mould cycle. Carbon-fibre-reinforced tapes and short-fibre thermoplastic core materials form near-net-shape components. Chemical foaming reduces weight while maintaining performance. Accessibility improvements allow smaller machine sizes and sub-60-second cycle times per blade.

Another application produces high-voltage automotive battery covers (1.3 × 1.8 metres) with flame-retardant thermoplastic, confirming scalability from small to large structural parts.

A WINTEC t-win 5500 with a clamping force of 5,500 kN, ENGEL viper 40 robot, and single-cavity mould produces transparent Borealis polypropylene crates (232 grams) in 11–12 seconds per cycle. The setup demonstrates short cycles, standardised two-platen design, and integrated automation for high output and competitive unit costs in packaging and logistics.

ENGEL integrates advanced process technologies, WINTEC machines, software, and data use to enhance stability, efficiency, and transparency in production. For processors, this translates to lower scrap, shorter set-up and troubleshooting times, consistent quality, and better cost control. Innovation anticipates scenarios, interprets change, and creates conditions for progress, combining engineering expertise, technological evolution, and industrial culture.
