Moving a step closer to achieve net-zero carbon emission goal by 2040, BPCL signs MoU with Rajasthan government to set 1 gigawatt renewable energy power plant to produce green energy in the state.
BPCL signs MoU with Rajasthan govt to set 1 GW renewable energy plant

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Rajasthan to set up a 1 gigawatt (GW) renewable energy power plant on Janyary 24, 2023. The major step has been taken towards the production of green energy in the state. BPCL is India’s second largest oil marketing company and been provided with the status of ‘Maharatna’ by department of public enterprises.

At a ceremony organized by the Bureau of Investment Promotion, government of Rajasthan, Bhaskar A Sawant, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Energy, government of Rajasthan and Shelly Abraham, Head Renewable Energy, BPCL signed the MoU.

The MoU signing ceremony was presided over by many government officials of government of Rajasthan. Ashok Gehlot, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shakuntala Rawat, Minister of Industries and Bhanwar Singh Bhati, Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge Energy) marked their presence.

Gehlot, expressed Rajasthan’s vision to create a positive space for investment in Rajasthan with a Green Imprint on it. He congratulated the working teams and encouraged to further augment this collaboration for sustainable economic development in the state.

Rawat assured full support from the government of Rajasthan to all the investors present during the ceremony. She further emphasised on the steps undertaken by the government in this regard.

Bharat Petroleum has set the ambitious goal of net-zero in scope 1 and 2 emissions by the year 2040. The company is also planning to expand their renewable portfolio and reach 1 GW of renewable energy by 2025 and 10 GW by 2040. BPCL’s 'Renewables' business unit is steering this voyage to help the global efforts to curb global warming, in line with the national climate commitments, and renewable energy has a pivotal role to play in this endeavor. The company is also accelerating biofuels in this pursuit. They are presently blending 10 per cent ethanol in petrol, with a target to reach 20 per cent blending by the year 2025-26.
