9 firms secure incentives for 4.5 LT of Green Hydrogen Production in India

Nine firms, including Reliance Green Hydrogen and Green Chemicals, ACME Cleantech Solutions, and Greenko Zero, have successfully secured government incentives for establishing facilities to produce up to 4.50 lakh tonnes of green hydrogen. On July 10, the Solar Energy Corporation of India invited bids for the selection of green hydrogen producers under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition Scheme (Mode-1-Tranche-I). Out of the 12 qualified bids, the companies will set up production facilities for 5,49,500 tonnes against the offered capacity of 4,50,000 tonnes.

Reliance Green Hydrogen and Green Chemicals have been chosen to receive incentives for producing 90,000 tonnes of green hydrogen at a three-year average rate of Rs 18.9 per kg. ACME Cleantech Solutions Private and Greenko ZeroC Private secured incentives for producing 90,000 tonnes each at a three-year average rate of Rs 30 per kg. Torrent Power, HHP Two Private, and Welspun New Energy also obtained incentives for various capacities and rates. Additionally, CESC Projects Ltd, UPL Ltd, and JSW Neo Energy Ltd were selected to receive government incentives for their respective production capacities and rates.

In total, these nine firms have been awarded incentives to establish 4,10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen production facilities under Bucket-1 (Technology Agnostic Pathway). Notably, Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private, Avaada GreenH2 Private, and GH4INDIA Private did not receive any incentives under this bucket.

The Union Cabinet had approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) in January last year, allocating Rs 19,744 crore to make India a global hub for manufacturing green hydrogen. The mission targets the development of 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 and aims to position India as a global hub for production, usage, and exports of green hydrogen and its derivatives, fostering international collaborations in hydrogen and fuel cells.
