A high level Indian delegation comprising top government officials, scientists of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and leadership of the EEPC India were present at the Hannover Messe 2018 trade fair in Germany. They showcased India’s strategy and road map for scaling up the technology and investment in manufacturing which is in the midst of several disruptive challenges.

Top government officials and leading industry players showcased Indian manufacturing prowess at Hannover Messe 2018.
 
A high level Indian delegation comprising top government officials, scientists of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and leadership of the EEPC India were present at the Hannover Messe 2018 trade fair in Germany. They showcased India’s strategy and road map for scaling up the technology and investment in manufacturing which is in the midst of several disruptive challenges.
 
The Indian delegation, led by Secretary in the Department of Heavy Industry, Dr A R Sihag, made a presentation at the Round Table at Hannover Messe, the Mecca of global engineering and technology expositions, about the initiatives being taken by the Indian government, engineering industry and the scientific institutions to enable the domestic industry to compete in the international market. Special focus was on enhancement of capabilities of the small and medium enterprises, for which cooperation from Germany is actively solicited under the top level institutional mechanism agreed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. 
 
“Considering the importance of adoption of new technologies, India and Germany have agreed to explore possibilities of cooperation in the field of industry 4.0 particularly between the industry platforms on both sides,” said Dr Sihag at the Round Table.
 
Under the SAMARTH (Smart & Advanced Manufacturing and Rapid Transformation Hub) Udyog, initiative, the Government of India is supporting setting up of four centres at IIT Delhi, IISc Bangalore, CMTI Bangalore and Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies, Pune for promoting smart and advanced manufacturing, particularly for the SMEs, in the country. 
 
According to Ravi Sehgal, Chairman EEPC Indi, the Indian engineering industry is adapting itself fast to the global innovations and technological challenges and opportunities. “Taking advantage of the top scientific and technological institutions like IITs and IIS, the Indian industry is integrating the new innovations and learning new skill sets for meeting the contemporary requirements of the global markets,” he added.
 
The EEPC, along with other industry bodies, participated and managed the Indian Pavilion at the engineering and technology fair and promoted the Make in India programme of the government. The Indian delegation actively engaged with global leaders, academia, scientists, policy makers at the Hannover Messe.
 
India Day
 
On April 26, VDMA India organised an Indian Day session at Hannover Fair to keep abreast with the latest developments and trends in motion, drives & automation sector. The program comprised of presentations and panel discussion on wide ranging topics like taxation, bankruptcy, ease of doing business, by the eminent speakers from VDMA and leading Indian companies.
 
The welcome address was given by Rajesh Nath, Managing Director, VDMA India, while Madan L Raigarh, Consul General of India, Hamburg, was the Chief Guest. Subrata Bose, Executive Partner - Accounting & Business Support, ASA & Associates LLP, in his presentation on GST stated the benefits of GST and it is aiding the growth of manufacturing sector in India. In his presentation on the new the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), Abhijit Guhatakurta, Senior Advisor, Corporate Finance Practice, BTG Legal, termed IBC to be a game changer for creditors and help the country to solve the problem of non-performing assets (NPAs) by increasing the recovery rates.
This was followed by a Panel discussion on ease of doing business in India moderated by Rajesh Nath, VDMA India. The panelists were Christian Kienzle (CEO, ARGO HYTOS Group); P L Muthusekkar (Managing Director, NORD Drivesystems Pvt Ltd); Debasis Nandi (President, South & South East Asia, Lenze Mechatronics); Rajiv Chawla (Founder & Chairman, JaiRaj Group of Industries); and Noshir Bulsara (Managing Director & CEO, NRB Hydraulics Pvt Ltd).
