Calderys has commissioned the first production line at its CAPES facility in Odisha, dedicated to next-generation acidic monolithics, and announced the addition of a tap-hole clay line, expanding the site’s scope. Calderys Plant in East and South India (CAPES) is rapidly progressing, with these milestones marking a key step towards making the facility a major manufacturing hub for high-performance refractories and steel casting fluxes in the region. When fully operational, it will have six advanced lines producing acidic and basic monolithics, acidic and basic bricks, ready-shaped products, steel casting fluxes, and tap-hole clays, supporting India’s fast-growing industrial base.

The acidic monolithics line, operational since May 2025, features advanced mixers, blenders, automated batching, and precision-controlled processes, delivering products with exceptional chemical resistance and thermal stability. With stringent quality controls and in-house testing, the products are already serving customers nationwide, ensuring quick delivery and reliable performance in high-temperature and corrosive environments.

The planned tap-hole clay line will be built on an additional five acres, producing high-plasticity, high-performance clay to meet stringent furnace operation requirements, ensuring consistent tapping performance and durability. Complementing the other lines in development, this will enhance Calderys’ capacity, agility, and localised support for iron and steel producers across India.

Michel Cornelissen, President and CEO of Calderys, said the commissioning of the first line and early sales are major milestones in the CAPES facility’s development, reflecting Calderys’ commitment to India’s high-temperature industrial sectors. Ish Mohan Garg, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, added that the site is ahead of schedule, with the basic monolithics line—second of six planned—set to be operational in August. With advanced manufacturing, strict quality control, and skilled teams, the company aims to help customers operate more efficiently and competitively.

Strategically located near major steel plants, CAPES will expand Calderys’ presence in eastern India while delivering advanced refractories and steel casting fluxes. The proximity will streamline supply chains, reduce lead times, and improve customer service.

The CAPES project is set to become the world’s largest single-site greenfield plant for refractories and steel casting fluxes. Spanning 45 acres, it will include six production lines and state-of-the-art testing units, significantly boosting capacity to meet India’s industrial growth, especially in the east and south. Full-scale production is expected in the second half of 2026, though operations have already begun with the first line.

Calderys is a global leader in high-temperature solutions, offering refractory products and advanced technologies for steel casting, metallurgical fluxes, and moulding. Operating in more than 30 countries with a strong presence in the Americas through HWI (HarbisonWalker International), the group delivers end-to-end, tailored services. With over 150 years of expertise, 4,500 employees, and 50 plants worldwide, Calderys supports customers in their energy transition journeys.
