Yarn Storage Feeder

The SFE yarn storage feeder is designed for use on circular and flat knitting machines, automatic hosiery machines and warp knitting machines with weft insertion. It is used whenever the yam demand is intermittent. For instance knitting a jaquard construction. The unit, equipped with a robust three-phase motor, draws the yarn from the bobbin package on the bobbin board, bobbin stand or creel, and creates a small reserve of yarn in the form of a winding on a drum, which can then be drawn off by the needles or other elements. The yarn reserve winding can be kept small due to the rapidly accelerating motor and the very sensitive sensor system. The size of the winding is scanned optically and is continuously adjustable. One type of feeder covers all yarn delivery rate ranges up to 500 m/min. The unit is equipped with a self-cleaning input brake that ensures that the yarn input tension is kept constant. The drive motor is of the high torque variety, a useful feature when dealing with poorly wound packages on when working with high input tensions. The winding drum is fitted with two yarn monitors. One will actuate the machine stop-motion circuit if the ingoing yarn becomes so taut that it would-prevent the motor from turning or-stall the motor. The other actuates the stop-motion circuit when the yarn reserve goes below the minimum, with little or no yarn reserve left on the drum. A yarn break detector is arranged at the input of the unit. The output can either have no detector, or be fitted with an electromechanical or an electronic detector. A signal indicator lamp on the feeder lights up to indicate any machine shut-down caused by a storage feeder fault. Each unit is fitted with an on/off switch as standard. The essential advantage of the SFE storage feeder is that variations in tension resulting from bobbin make-up, yarn path, etc, are counteracted. The range of tension rings available means that yarn output tension can be preselected and reliably held virtually constant.
