Cost Reduction in Stainless Steel Hot Forging

Steel Plant Specialities LLP has achieved a breakthrough that results in Cost Reduction in Stainless Steel Hot Forging. While heating ingots or billets for hot forging, oxidation and scaling take place. In an oil fired furnace, scale loss is in the range of 2-4.5%. This is a huge loss. Steel Plant Specialities offers a unique process to reduce the scale loss by 75%. In this process, the ingot or billet surface is made resistant to scaling by using a special protective coating known as ESPON. This coating is applied by spraying or brushing before charging into furnace. Apart from material saving, reduction of scaling enables easier machining. Due to minimizing of scaling, unproductive work of scale disposal is minimized. Scale prevention during solution annealing reduces subsequent pickling time by 75%. ESPON coating process can be easily extended to hot rolling of stainless steel of all grades.
