Refractory Coating For Furnaces

Refractory Coating For Furnaces

A unique refractory coating, developed by Steel Plant Specialities LLP, Mumbai, has proven to increase refractory lining life, reduce fuel consumption and improve uniformity of heat in a wide range of furnace operations. Coating must be applied on refractory lining when furnace is in cold condition. This protective coating can withstand temperatures up to 1900ºC, and can resist corrosion by acidic gases. It protects refractory lining from thermal shocks, heat cracks and improves emissivity of heat within the furnace. In billet re-heating furnaces in hot rolling mills, almost 1.5 to 2 hours of heating time could be reduced to achieve temperature of 1200ºC. Refractory coating enabled retention of heat in furnace during furnace shut down on previous day. Furnace outer shell temperature was reduced by almost 20ºC, confirming heat retention. In sealed quench furnaces, temperature uniformity in furnace chamber is improved. In acid regeneration plants, slag adhesion is prevented. Espon refractory coating is found useful in industries such as hot rolling, heat treatment, hot forging, brass and non-ferrous metals, ceramics and pottery, chemical, fertiliser, iron & steel, petroleum refining and petrochemical industries.
