Green Led Lamps For Traffic Signals

Hewlett Packard Co, the world's largest supplier of high brightness red and yellow LED lamps now offer high intensity bluish green LED lamps for traffic signals. These are designed to meet the colour and brightness requirements of green traffic signals based on US and many worldwide standards. This also makes HP the first US manufacturer to supply traffic signal lamps in all the three colours. The green (505 nm dominant wavelength) lamps provide typical intensities of up to 2,300 millicandela with a 23? viewing angle and 2,100 millicandela with a 30? viewing angle (20 mA drive current). Manufacturers can now produce LED traffic signal heads that comply with Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) standards for colour and brightness in all three colours that consume 85% less energy than incandescent lamps, Conventional 12 inch diameter traffic signals use incandescent lamps consuming 116 to 150 watts. LED equivalent with today's technology consume only 10 to 18 watts of electrical power. In addition, these lamps require almost no maintenance, last longer than incandescent lamps, and are interconnected so that failure of one or more individual lamps does not cause the red, yellow or green indication to go dark, thus providing an additional safety factor.
