NDT scanners

PM has developed a range of head/probe manipulators for three dimensional non destructive (NDT) scanning. Scanning systems with up to five degrees of movement are available. Completely integrated systems comprising of mechanical sub-systems, position/speed control drives, embedded processor controls with teach pendant and cursor keys for direction control are standard. X, Y, Z movement strokes range from 50 mm to 4000 mm. The alpha - ( axis swivels the probe about its clamping center (0? to 180?) and the beta - ( axis rotates the probe around the Z axis (0? to 360?). Both these axes allow for pan and tilt movement of the probe. The entire scanner can be located inside a chamber. The movements can be controlled with the help of motor and limit sensor cables routed through the cable feed-throughs of the chamber. The exact location of the scanner is indicated on the LCD panel with a resolution of up to ten microns. Positioning accuracies range from 0.02 mm to 0.5 mm. Speeds ranging from 0 to 30 metres per minute are possible. Positioning accuracies, speeds, resolutions and repeatability are dependent upon the selection of transmission systems and drives used. Split scanning systems can also be offered where the job is rotated about its centre along the Theta axis while the probe is moved/positioned along the X, Y, Z and the alpha axis. These highly versatile scanners are extremely useful for ultrasonic (UT), radio (RT), X-ray scanning of jobs to detect surface and internal material flaws.
