Pre-Payment Meters

Emco Ltd, Meters Div, in collaboration with Conlog, South Africa, offers Pre-payment meters. These meters supply a pre-paid amount of energy to the consumer and disconnect the service when the credit is exhausted. They are available in two types-Key Pad type and Magnetic Card type. Electricity is conceived as a product and sold through vending stations in terms of kWh credit. Credit transfer through a magnetic card or a 20 digit encrypted code as per standard STS protocol ensures utmost reliability. Once inserted or keyed in, the meter displays the amount of energy in credit and starts dispensing the electricity till the credit lasts. After insertion, the data in the card or code is erased, thus preventing reuse. Key elements: Single phase/three phase metering element; Control mechanism; User inter-face; Disconnection device; and, Vending system. Features: Class 2 accuracy; LCD display; Status indication; Destroy to remove plastic seals; and, Conforms to IEC 1036 and IP 51 specifications. Benefits to the consumer are self-management of energy consumption, no deposits, no unexplained and unexpected accounts and better budgeting. To the supplying company, the benefits are no meter reading and bill delivery, increased cash flows, no credit control and deposit administration costs, and no disconnection and reconnection administration.
