The Shore Hardness is defined as the resistance to penetration by an indentor of specified shape under a defined load. Zwick hardness testers are designed to determine the hardness to Shore A. They are suited for use on soft elastomers the hardness of which is between 10 and 90 Shore A. Zwick hardness testers are designed to determine the hardness to Shore D. They are suited for use on harder elastomers (hardness > 80 Shore A) and on plastics the hardness of which is between 30 and 90 Shore D. Zwick Shore hardness testers are provided with drag pointers, which are necessary when the place of test is not accessible for a direct readout of the instrument by the person performing the test.
