Double Helical Gears

  • Herringbone gears find application in steel rolling mills, cement industry, etc, and are used to balance the thrust load.
  • A herringbone gear, a specific type of double helical gear, is a side to side (not face to face) combination of two helical gears of opposite hands.
  • From the top the helical grooves of this gear looks like letter V; unlike helical gears they do not produce an additional axial load.
  • New workshop will have integrated facilities for gears/gearboxes, which includes physical testing laboratory for material and chemical inspection, modern spectrometer, image analyser, electric furnace, forging shop, heat treatment shop with SCADA for normalizing, hardening tempering, case carburising and hardening, carbo-nitriding and a new workshop with a blend of conventional and CNC machines for hobbing, bevel cutting, grinding, broaching, lapping, and vertical machining centres.
  • The facilities are designed to make a broad range of spur-helical-herringbone gears, straight bevel gears, spiral bevel gears, gearboxes, broached components and bronze precision machined parts.
  • The most modern Gleason gear checking machine has already been put into service for achieving better accuracies for gear/pinion manufacturing.
