The HallScrew single screw positive displacement compressor is designed for the compression of all refrigerant gases for industrial refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems. It can be driven by 50 or 60 Hz electric motors, turbines internal combustion, gas or diesel engines. Only three basic moving parts are involved - main rotor which meshes with two diametrically opposed star wheels - a geometry which results in a balanced action with no power loss between the rotor and stars and minimum bearing loads. The machine incorporates a capacity control mechanism to regulate the capacity with corresponding reduction in power input. The design of the casing gives complete access to all parts without removal of the machine from its installation and associated pipe work and insulation. Gas fills the rotor grooves before they mesh with the teeth on star A. As rotation continues, the gas is sealed within the space created by the rotor groove, housing and star tooth. Continued rotation causes the volume of the rotor groove to reduce, compressing the gas. As the maximum point of compression is reached, a discharge port is uncovered and all gas is expelled from the rotor groove.
