National Electrical Industry (International Marketing Division) offers PMSM (AC Servo) Motors. As technology has been upgrading, this dedicated servo system is becoming universal and same hardware caters to the need of AC servo and also conventional AC motor. Only the parameters of motors are to be fed the main parameter is back EMF which one can ascertain by running the motor (Servo/PMSM) as generators by coupling with AC/DC motors at specified speed to record output of voltage at maximum rated speed. Here other parameters are very common like resistance of winding, inductance, Nm/A, etc. PMSM comes in all aluminium and cast iron enclosure and is offered at 30% lesser prices in comparison with Chinese counterpart and 70% lower compared to European counterpart. Further, AC synchronous motors need not run with encoder for closed loop operation, unlike AC asynchronous motor (conventional induction motor). It has no slip or droppage of speed, it runs independently on frequency and therefore develops torque constant and with the help of programming of ordinary drive VVVF or vector type can perform accuracy of AC servo motor run on (pulse mode) but PMSM or called AC servo (series) motor can achieve same accuracy with time, i.e., millisecond function offered in drive with acceleration and deceleration provide in the drive making concept of point to point positioning very simple and cheap. At the same time accuracy of AC servo system is achieved. Further, if encoder is fitted and some one wants to attach this system with 2-axis or 4-axis system to run these motors, an encoder or resolver can be fitted in these motors and for the same control technique ABB. HPB and Delta (series VFD-VL) have started drives called universal drives. These can co-operate with 2-axis and 4-axis hardware to cater the need of existing AC servo application, where dedicated controls are making system a complex one. These above mentioned drives manufactured by multinational companies are very much cheaper compared to conventional AC servo drives and are called universal drives, which runs AC motors, AC servomotors – open loop/close loop, etc.
