CPEC's parallel shaft helical gearboxes as well as bevel helical gearboxes are normally manufactured in 42 different sizes based on centre distance and the number of stages. These gearboxes are capable of transmitting power up to 9,000 HP. Gearing accuracies are based on British Standard BS:436-1970 and gear ratios are in accordance with American Gear Manufacturing Association (AGMA). The range of ratios offered is 1.22:1 to 129.75:1 in parallel shaft helical and from 5.6:1 to 1250:1 in bevel helical gearboxes. The efficiency of worm reduction gearing comes down from 95% to 30% depending upon the size, reduction ratio and speed. In the case of helical gearing, the efficiency reduction is practically negligible, ie, from approximately 99% to 97% with different ratios.
