Magnetic starter - AMS101 - for slip ring motors is offered by Absolute Instrumentation situated in Mumbai. This works on the principle of energy dissipation depending on starting torque, acceleration time and nature of load connected. This is done by dissipating motor energy externally as core loss. As motor accelerates, resistance is required to be reduced linearly with respect to slip for a given load. This is achieved by reduction in core loss in magnetic circuit as motor speed is increased the slip decreases linearly. By connecting main coils and tertiary winding in different ways, several starting torque/speed combinations can be achieved for different ratings, rotor voltage, rotor current, etc, of the motor, provided rotor current is not exceeding the given value. These starters are fully automatic and since no moving parts are involved requires minimum maintenance.
