Engine Bearings

Engine Bearings are made up of best quality steel back lined with different kinds of Alloys best suitable for the applications for which the bearings are used. A bearing surface has to be strong to withstand high oil filling pressures. It needs to be hard to minimize wear and prevent failure from fatigue. In contrast, a bearing surface needs to be soft to allow the bearing to tolerate the shaft and sustain when the Cylinder Block distortion occurs and thereby protect the journal as well from damage by absorbing hard foreign particles.
The Bearing materials being used are:

  • (Babbitt) White Metal Tin base having 90% Tin, 3% Copper and 7% Antimony. This is for low load applications specially used for high-speed engines with light loading as in automobiles, time tested.
  • (Babbitt) Lead Base Alloy having 83% Lead, 1% Tin, 1% Arsenic and 15% Antimony.
  • Aluminium Base Alloy Aluminium Bearings are either of Cast Solid Aluminium, or Aluminium with Steel Backing or Aluminium with a suitable overlay.
  • Copper Lead Alloy consists of a continuous matrix of harder metal (Copper) with a small amount of softer metal (Lead).
