Most bearing manufacturers take traditional manual methods to inspect defects of bearings, which are low efficient, increases, the labour cost and unreliable. This is an automated vision inspection system, which automatically identifies all types of defects for tapered roller bearing based on machine vision. The system is used to optimise vision inspection, which will cover all types of mechanical dimensions includes all, and makes the process monitoring online. The systems reduces the cost of manufacturing, increases the productivity saves time, the inspecting system is very reliable, stable and effective. The automated vision inspection system includes a camera system, a computer and its proprietary software. The automated system has provision for online inspection by CCDs and defects recognising algorithms and takes the place of workers' eyes. It has user-friendly camera-based sensor, light source, lens, and programmer to get high-quality images. Visual defects recognition is done by proprietary software algorithms. The defects of bearings include roller-missing in tapered roller bearings (RM) and some rollers being installed in opposite to the direction of standard need (ROD). The key advantage of this system is to use practical image processing skills by software, which helps improve the accuracy of the defects recognising algorithms. The accuracy and stability of system mainly depends on the algorithms with a precondition of a fixed lighting system and imaging processing system. It involves multi-domains, image-processing and pattern recognition. All types of defects recognising algorithms for RM and ROD defects are done internally by the system. It has practical applications in all types of bearing manufacturing industries, as it is a reliable, stable and effective inspecting system for identifying defects.
