Thycon India manufactures different types and various capacities of Battery Chargers for electric sub-stations, atomic/hydel/thermal power stations, telecommunication, railway signalling/diesel loco/electric traction, DG set and for charging all types of batteries like lead acid, tubular type maintenance free (SMF), valve regulated, automotive, Ni-Cd type, etc., for commercial and industrial use. These battery chargers are manufactured as per specifications and requirements of customers. Mainly the following types are manufactured for single/three phases AC input supply: automatic float cum boost battery chargers, automatic float and boost battery chargers, manual battery chargers (coarse and fine control type) and transformer rectifiers. These are manufactured up to 500 A capacity from 12 V DC to 500 V DC or as per the requirements and specifications. The AC input is fed to main rectifying double wound transformer. A suitable full wave rectifier bridge is connected to the secondary of the transformer. This DC supply is further filtered with the help of the L-C filter circuit for smothering ripple contents. On/Off switch, HRG fuses in input, rectifier and DC output circuits snubber, circuit R-C network across each semiconductor device for surge protection indicating lamps, ammeter, voltmeter are also provided. In automatic battery chargers SCRs (thyristors) are used in rectifier bridge and firing angle is controlled with the help of solid-state IC circuit. Constant voltage of constant current feature is obtained. Automatic change over (float to boost and vice-versa) circuit is also provided which senses and operates according to the condition of battery, this protects the battery from over charging and increases life of the battery. Safety circuits are provided, viz., over load, current limiting, over voltage, short circuits, reverse polarity of batteries or as per requirement.
