Automatic Voltage Controller, Rolling Contact Type


Power Engineering Corporation offers rolling contact type servo controlled Automatic Voltage Controller with capacity range of 30 kVA to 2000 kVA. Linear, plus/minus type vertical rolling contact voltage regulator: these are auto wound transformers having single layer helical coils mounted on a conventional laminated core. The assembly used consists of self-lubricating carbon rollers assembled on a fibreglass carrier board traverse the length of the coil track. The roller mechanism is driven by the servomotor, which receives its signal from a voltage monitoring IC card on the output side of the servo stabiliser. These rollers are electrically connected to the output terminals and as they are driven over the track, a variable voltage is obtained. Beneath the regulating coil a number of compensating windings are connected in parallel and short circuited to reduce the effect of core-flux `fringing’ and keeps the reactance of the regulator fairly constant at any position of the rolling contact. Heavy sections of electrolytic rectangular copper strips are used instead of copper wire to minimise losses and increase the efficiency of the equipment. Double wound buck/boost type series transformer: CRGO laminations are used to minimise iron losses and coils of buck/boost transformer are wound with heavy section of multi strips electrolytic copper to minimise copper losses for getting better efficiency of the equipment. The AVC consists of very simple electronic control circuit for monitoring and controlling voltage. Plug-in-type IC cards are used which are specifically designed for easy online service. The regulator and buck/boost transformer are oil cooled, housed in same or separate sheet steel tanks. Radiators are provided for effective cooling, if necessary. The coils of voltage regulator and buck/boost transformers are vacuum impregnated and oven dried as per IS.
