Elster Metering offers Automated Meter Reading System. The electricity meter is installed in the low voltage grid and periodically transmits its kWh reading on the power line. The data concentrator EMgate is installed in the low voltage grid, collects the kWh readings from the allocated meters, stores the hourly load profile data and sends it further towards the customer"s LAN through radio, GSM, GPRS or via direct serial link for analysis, billing or theft detection. The salient features of the system are: works in the low voltage grid; one way kWh reading on power lines in the 50 kHz ±8 kHz band; distances of up to 1,000 metres on power lines, depending on the load; scheduled/manual data acquisition; alarms/forecasting; hourly/daily load profile and energy consumption per customer/group of customers; line losses/tariff analysis; primary data for existing billing systems; primary data for existing billing systems; and very low operating and maintenance cost.
