Water Wash Paint Booth

In a typical paint booth, the component is taken inside the paint booth by an overhead or continuous conveyor. In a side-draft type of paint booth, the component is to be painted in the booth by rotating it inside the booth to cover all the sides, while the painter is stationary on the front side. The air is sucked from the side behind the painter and passes through the washing chamber behind the component. Hence, the draft of the air is always away from the painter as well as component. In the water wash spray booth, a stream of air at very high velocity licks the surface of the water, entraining a large of water in the air. This water will contain paint particles also. This mixture traveling at a very high velocity is forced to make a number of carefully controlled changes in direction, before its path straightens out inside the washing chamber of the booth. Because of the curved path, the heaviest paint and water particles are thrown out and separated from the air stream by centrifugal force experienced. The deflector and eliminator plates prevent any of water and paint particles to escape through the exhaust. The water and paint (pigment) particles are returned to the tank with the help of return trough.

The alkali based booth additive in the water tank kills the paint and separates pigments and resins in it. Thus, paint loses its properties. Waste oil prevents paint particle coagulation The solvent vapour is then exhausted out through the exhaust ducts in the atmosphere. The size of the duct and velocity generated by the exhaust blower are designed accordingly to ensure that the solvent vapour is in diluted form while being let out in the atmosphere.

Advantages of Water-Wash Type Paint Booth

Effective removal of over-sprayed paint particles through suction and adequate exhaust away from the component eliminates its settling on the wet painted surface, thereby, improving the quality of finish of the component.

Operator always breathes fresh air due to the draft and direction of air, Paint is broken down into its basic elements, thus, killing its hazardous properties, Washing action minimizes escape of paint along with exhaust air eliminating possibility of air pollution, Solvent vapours are diluted to permissible limits before they are left in the atmosphere, and Minimisation of fire risk. Water-wash type of paint booth ensures optimum operator efficiency, over-sprayed paint treatment, trouble-free functioning, improved product finish, and controlled air-velocity resulting in paint saving. It reduces dust contamination, paint pollution, fire hazard, clean out costs, and maintenance costs.
