Automatic voltage regulators (AVRs) are popular devices to counter the problems caused by fluctuating voltage, with the cost recovered in a short period by means of increased production and saving in maintenance costs.

Voltage fluctuation affects the normal functioning of electrical equipment and sometime damages the equipment, which leads to production loss. Hence, in such conditions these units are compelled to run on diesel generating sets continuously, which results in high maintenance expense for generators, apart from the increased cost of electricity generation. The initial capital, investment made on the automatic voltage regulator (AVR) is recovered in a short period by means of increased production level and saving in maintenance costs and also on the generation cost of power.

Evaluating the customers’ requirements and based on the solutions arrived at by in-house consultants and electrical experts, the company had launched a transformer with built-in HT AVR with different ranges of voltage variations. This product was first supplied to Tata Tea in the year 1992. Since then, the company has supplied the same product to a number of customers all over India and all of these units are working satisfactorily.

Later, after new regulations enforced by Government of India, the company started manufacturing dry type transformers with oil cooled built-in HT AVR. Two 1600 kVA dry type transformers with oil cooled built-in HT AVR were commissioned at Sir Gangaram Hospital extension project. Later it also launched a unique product based on work done by the in-house R&D Division, a 500 kVA Dry Type Transformer with dry type built-in HT AVR, for Usha International Ltd. The company has 2 MVA, 11 kV HT AVRs working satisfactorily at LRDE and GTRE installations at Bangalore and also at several sites for the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Board, to which it has supplied 33 kV, 3.15 kVA HT AVRs.
