Mitsubishi Electric India, a global leader in electrical and electronic equipment, has launched the 6th edition of its renowned engineering and technical competition, the Mitsubishi Electric Cup (ME Cup). This national-level competition challenges engineering and technical students to apply industrial automation technologies to solve real-world problems.

After a hiatus due to the pandemic, the competition returns in collaboration with MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), Pune. Open to diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate students, the ME Cup invites young minds across India to design and build intelligent automation systems using Mitsubishi Electric’s Factory Automation (FA) products or CNC components. The competition was officially launched on July 18th, 2025, with online registrations open at Mitsubishi Electric Cup - National Level Automation Competition for Students.

This year’s edition is themed "Automating the World through Digital Innovation," aligning with Mitsubishi Electric’s vision to drive positive societal impact through automation.

Dr S Sriram, Division Head - Factory Automation Systems and Director, Mitsubishi Electric India, stated, “This competition is about sparking innovation in the next generation of engineers. India is swiftly moving towards smart manufacturing and digitalisation, requiring engineers capable of designing intelligent, sustainable, and efficient systems. The Mitsubishi Electric Cup bridges the gap between academic knowledge and practical application.”

The top 35 shortlisted teams will work on projects addressing intelligent manufacturing, energy efficiency, and smart automation. Mitsubishi Electric India will provide technical training and FA components on a returnable basis. The winning team will receive ?1,00,000, the runner-up ?75,000, and the third-place team ?50,000, with all participants receiving certificates. The winning team will also get the opportunity to enroll in the MECA Global Competition in Japan in September 2026.

Dr Ganesh Kakandikar, Associate Dean External Relations, MIT-WPU, added, “MIT-WPU is honoured to host the 6th edition of the Mitsubishi Electric Cup. It is one of the few competitions where students are encouraged to think like engineers, innovate like professionals, and present solutions that address the challenges of tomorrow’s industries.”

Proposal submissions are open until September 1, 2025, and the shortlisted teams will be announced on September 26, 2025. The final competition will be held at MIT-WPU, Pune from February 19 to 21, 2026, including prototype exhibitions, jury evaluations, and a prize distribution ceremony.

The Mitsubishi Electric Cup exemplifies Mitsubishi Electric India’s commitment to shaping the future of digital manufacturing in India by empowering young innovators.

With over 100 years of expertise in high-quality products, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation is a global leader in electrical and electronic equipment for industries including information processing, communications, space development, consumer electronics, industrial technology, energy, transportation, and building equipment.
