India’s auto exports hit record 5.36 million units in FY25

India’s automobile exports soared to an all-time high of 5.36 million units in FY 2024-25, marking a 19% increase over the previous fiscal’s 4.5 million units, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The sharp rise underscores India's growing position as a global automotive manufacturing hub.

Passenger vehicle exports grew 15% to 7,70,364 units, with Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India leading the segment. Maruti’s off-roader Jimny, now being exported to Japan, Mexico, Australia, and South Africa, has seen strong traction, with over 38,000 units shipped in the first nine months of FY25. It joins the Fronx SUV, also being exported to Japan from Maruti’s Gujarat plant.

Hyundai, with exports of 1,58,686 vehicles, continued targeting emerging markets in Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East, with models like the i10 and Verna achieving major export milestones.

Utility vehicles saw the highest growth, with a 54% rise to 3,62,160 units, up from 2,34,720 units in FY24.
In the two-wheeler segment, exports jumped 21% to 41,98,403 units, led by Bajaj Auto, TVS, and Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India. SIAM attributed the growth to economic recovery in Africa and sustained demand from Latin America.

Commercial vehicle exports rose 23% to 80,986 units, while three-wheeler exports saw a modest 2% growth to 3,10,000 units.
The surge in vehicle exports reflects India’s improved manufacturing quality, strategic export market expansion, and the country's emergence as a key supplier for global automotive demand, particularly for cost-competitive and reliable vehicles.
