Promoted by technocrats, Deepak Engineering Industries commenced its manufacturing operations15 years ago in a very small way and by catering mainly to the requirements of soft turned bearing races to medium-sized bearing manufacturers in northern India. From that humble beginning, the company has grown to a leading supplier of soft turned bearing races, automobile components, and seize resistant and special purpose bearings, for material handling equipments and critical applications.

Sensing the technological changes well in time, the company decided upon enhancing its expertise to automobile sector and components of material handling systems. The field of material handling equipment is gaining prominence with the growth of industry as it covers the entire spectrum of waste management; assembly line management and storage; material transport, etc., and covers the utilisation of all materials and processes involved in the entire manufacturing procedure. Increase in materials costs, wages, interest and transportation has compelled industries to automate material handling systems in their plants; this, in order to affect economies positively, so as to offset increase in costs with the improvement in efficiencies in operation, if Indian industry has to compete globally.

Batch production technology is now a thing of the past and almost all the prominent Bearing Manufacturers in India have gone for transfer line manufacturing and assembly techniques in order to minimise the need to employ skilled workforce and to increase productivity. Automation & deployment of transfer lines require that the components to be fed should be within, specified close tolerances both dimensionally & geometrically and sensing this requirement quite earlier, we undertook extensive modernisation and also diversification so as to establish ourselves as a leading supplier of CNC turned bearing races and automobile components with superior quality both functionally and cost effectiveness.

More than 80% of the sales of Deepak Engineering Industries is to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). 10-15% of the sales turnover is contributed from exports to various countries such as USA, South America, Europe, New Zealand, UAE and Saudi Arabia, to mention a few. Mr H C Agrawal, Managing Partner, who has a rich experience of more than 45 years, manages the company. The company has recently commissioned a Bearing Manufacturing unit in Myanmar, worth US$ 15 million, under the Indo-Myanmar Credit Agreement dated 17.11.2000. The present activities of the company are broad based and a one-stop manufacturing source in India for both soft turned components and finish assembled rolling elements from SAE 52100 /8620/440 C/M50 steel.

The product range includes single and double row deep groove bearings; angular contact bearings; thrust bearings; cylindrical roller bearings; cylindrical roller thrust bearings; spherical roller bearings; thrust spherical roller bearings; tapered roller bearings; and needle roller and clutch release bearings. Most modern management techniques, such as, six core methods of lean manufacturing; 5S; TPM; Cellular Manufacturing Poka-Yoke; Just-in-Time/Kanban and Heiyunka are employed in the organisation, as well as a collection of advanced manufacturing methods, that focus on eliminating wastages, improving productivity while delivering quality products at the lowest cost to manufacturers and consumers.

The company has been awarded ISO 9001: 2008 certification by Moody International Certification Ltd., UK, and assessed for excellent business ethics and trade practices in terms of performance and credit rating by Dun & Bradstreet Corporation, USA. The present business environment is good and growth seems to be major driving factor post recession. Orders keep flowing and delivery commitments are very high, which shows a positive trend of the market. Approvals from extremely quality conscious bearing manufacturers both in India and abroad are, for the company, a clear indication of the high quality of its product range. "The outlook for 2011 is very robust as a lot of capital expenditure is happening and we are expecting to grow at a phenomenal 100% this year," says Mr Agrawal.
