BEML to build rail coach plant in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh

BEML Limited, a public sector firm under the Ministry of Defence, will set up a new manufacturing unit in Umeria, Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, to produce rolling stock and metro coaches. The state government has allotted 60.063 hectares (about 148 acres) of land for the project, which aims to meet the rising demand in India’s rail and urban transit sectors.

The facility supports the ‘Make in India’ initiative by bolstering domestic production and reducing import dependence. Once operational, it is expected to play a key role in advancing national rail infrastructure.

This announcement follows BEML’s recent acquisition of 100 acres in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district, where it plans to build a facility for heavy earth-moving machinery. Together, the two developments underscore BEML’s strategic expansion in support of India’s defence, rail, metro, and construction equipment needs.
