DGTR launches inquiry for dumping of Chinese guard rails following complaints

If the investigation confirms that dumping has harmed domestic manufacturers, the DGTR will recommend imposing anti-dumping duties on these imports.
India has launched an anti-dumping investigation into the import of Chinese lift guide rails following a complaint from a domestic company. The goal of the investigation is to protect the local industry from the influx of cheap imports.
The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), the commerce ministry's investigative branch, is examining the alleged dumping of 'T-Shaped Elevator/Lift Guide Rails and Counterweight Guide Rails' from China. This probe was initiated following an application by Savera India Riding Systems Company, which claimed that these imports were causing material injury to the domestic industry and requested the imposition of anti-dumping duties.
In a notification, the DGTR stated, "On the basis of the duly substantiated written application submitted by the domestic industry and having reached satisfaction based on the prima facie evidence submitted by the industry concerning the dumping of the product...the Authority, hereby, initiates an anti-dumping investigation."
If the investigation confirms that dumping has harmed domestic manufacturers, the DGTR will recommend imposing anti-dumping duties on these imports. The final decision on imposing these duties rests with the finance ministry.
Anti-dumping investigations are conducted by countries to assess whether domestic industries have been negatively impacted by an influx of cheap imports. As a countermeasure, they may impose duties under the multilateral framework of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The purpose of these duties is to ensure fair trade practices and provide a level playing field for domestic producers compared to foreign producers and exporters.
India has already imposed anti-dumping duties on several products to address the issue of cheap imports from various countries, including China.
The finance ministry has cited public interest and differences over data interpretation for rejecting anti-dumping duty and safeguard duty recommendations by the commerce ministry.
