Budget aims to integrate India with global supply chains, boost manufacturing

New Delhi

As India progresses toward achieving Sabka Vikas through balanced regional growth, exports have been recognized as a key driver of the country’s economic expansion. Presenting the Union Budget 2025-26 in Parliament, Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman outlined transformative reforms aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing and integrating India’s economy with global supply chains.

BharatTradeNet: A digital public infrastructure for trade
To streamline international trade, the Budget proposes the establishment of BharatTradeNet (BTN)—a unified digital platform for trade documentation and financing solutions. Highlighting its significance, Sitharaman stated, “BTN will complement the Unified Logistics Interface Platform and align with global best practices.”

Strengthening India’s role in global supply chains
The Finance Minister announced targeted support for developing domestic manufacturing capabilities to seamlessly integrate India with global supply chains. Sectors for intervention will be identified based on objective criteria. Additionally, facilitation groups—comprising senior officials and industry representatives—will be formed to enhance select product categories and supply chain networks.

Emphasising India’s skilled workforce, Sitharaman noted that the country’s youth possess the expertise required to capitalize on Industry 4.0 opportunities. “Our government will support the domestic electronic equipment industry to ensure these opportunities benefit our youth,” she added.

National framework for GCCs
To promote the establishment of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in emerging Tier-2 cities, the Budget proposes a National Framework as a guiding document for states. This framework will recommend 16 key measures focused on talent development, infrastructure enhancement, building bylaw reforms, and fostering industry collaboration.
