Kindly brief us about your company.

Headquartered in Gurugram, Exicom has been a pioneer in the telecom industry for over two decades before it ventured into the electric mobility segment in 2018 with a vision to provide industry-leading EV charging and EV battery solutions. Backed by extensive production prowess and a large R&D, Exicom became the first EV charger company in India and has since established itself as the leader in this space.

Exicom’s role has been crucial in driving the EV revolution in India as its products have helped consumers adopt electric vehicles.  Exicom has encouraged consumers to switch from ICE vehicles to EVs.

Using advanced technology and supported by India’s most capable R&D team in the EV charging space, Exicom has been actively to address range anxiety among EV users by developing fast charging solutions. The company has developed DC fast chargers ranging from 15 KW to 480 KW range. India’s highest capacity DC fast charger with a capacity of 360 KW, installed JBM electric bus for public transport. Besides this, we have also developed 240-KW capacity fast chargers that are currently supplied to several OEMs and charge point operators.

Exicom today has captured around 80 per cent of the residential EV charger market for electric 4Ws and 40 per cent market in the public charging space. That aside, Exicom is the only manufacturer in India that exports EV chargers and has captured a significant share in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Europe.

With its cutting-edge features and user-friendly interface, Exicom India has introduced significant technological advancements in its EV chargers, offering a new level of convenience to EV users. These include smart charging capabilities, efficient cable management, secure backend communications.

According to you, what are some challenges in the market for EV charger manufacturers? Also, what are some challenges to set up EV charging infrastructure in India?

The market for EV charger manufacturers is evolving rapidly, presenting both opportunities and complexities. One major challenge is the standardisation of charging protocols. As different EV manufacturers adopt various standards, ensuring interoperability among chargers becomes essential. Manufacturers must navigate this diversity to offer versatile charging solutions that cater to a broad range of EV models.

Considering the context of India, establishing an extensive EV charging infrastructure faces its own set of challenges. One of the primary challenges is the need for robust grid infrastructure. Rapid charging stations demand a substantial power supply, necessitating upgrades to the electrical grid to support the simultaneous charging of multiple vehicles.

Moreover, addressing range anxiety and ensuring convenient access to charging stations across the vast geography of India is another hurdle. Strategic placement of charging stations along highways, in urban areas, and at key destinations is critical to encouraging EV adoption.

Regulatory support and policy frameworks also play a pivotal role. Streamlining permit processes, incentivising private investments, and offering subsidies can significantly accelerate the development of charging infrastructure.

‘Sustainable Future’ is a demand for both customers and businesses today. How is your company driving sustainability needs with its products and solutions?

Exicom Power Systems is committed to driving sustainability in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle (EV) industry. Our products and solutions are designed with a core focus on sustainability, aligning with the growing demand from both customers and businesses for a more environmentally friendly future.

Firstly, our EV charging solutions are engineered for energy efficiency. We prioritise the development of high-efficiency chargers that minimise energy waste during the charging process. This not only reduces the carbon footprint of EV charging but also helps lower operational costs for businesses and EV owners.

Secondly, Exicom is at the forefront of innovation when it comes to renewable energy integration. We recognise the importance of clean energy sources, and our chargers are adaptable to renewable power inputs such as solar and wind. This ensures that EVs can be charged using clean, sustainable energy, contributing to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Furthermore, our commitment to sustainability extends to product durability and longevity. We design our chargers to be robust and reliable, with a focus on long-term performance. This minimises the need for frequent replacements and reduces electronic waste, further supporting environmental sustainability.

We also emphasise smart charging solutions that optimise energy usage, load distribution, and grid management. These technologies help reduce peak energy demand and promote efficient use of available resources, making the grid more sustainable.

What support are EV charger manufacturers getting from government in India? How has it helped your company to grow and expand its operations?

In India, the government has played a pivotal role in supporting the growth of electric vehicles and the charging segment. One of the key forms of support is through financial incentives and subsidies. The government offers incentives to both EV manufacturers and charging infrastructure providers. These incentives help reduce the cost of manufacturing EV chargers, making them more accessible and affordable for consumers.

Additionally, the introduction of favourable policies and regulations has been instrumental. Mandates that require public charging stations in certain categories of buildings and public places have spurred the development of charging infrastructure across the nation.

The reduction in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate for EV chargers has further improved the cost-effectiveness of our products, making them a more attractive investment.

One significant move that has also supported the business of Exicom is public-private partnerships. Collaborations with the government have allowed us to actively participate in the development of charging infrastructure across the country.

Lastly, government investments in infrastructure, particularly in the expansion and modernisation of the power grid, have created an enabling environment for the growth of charging networks.

What are your growth plans for the coming future?

Exicom Power Systems is planning to grow in the future by making better and smarter electric vehicle chargers. We want to expand to new places, work with important partners, and offer different charging solutions to fit different needs.

We also care about the environment, so we'll use more clean energy and make sure our products are long-lasting. We want to give great service to our customers and work with governments to make rules that help electric vehicles and charging stations.

In the near future, emerging trends in the EV charging space will bring significant advancements to the industry. Ultra-fast charging technologies, wireless charging, and advanced payment systems like biometrics and blockchain are some of the key innovations that will have a substantial impact. These trends will enhance charging speed and user convenience, driving the widespread adoption of electric vehicles and furthering the development of the EV charging industry. We at Exicom are confident about the innovation that we will offer the industry. The company is working on 'Plug & Charge', 'bi-directional charging', and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functionalities to further enhance the charging experience for customers.
