“Transmission and distribution to provide growth for T&M industry”

With test and measuring (T&M) market growing due to awareness on safety and quality parameters across industries, Ashish Bhatia, Business Development-Equipment Business, Micoteck Equipment Labs takes a closer look at the current market and emerging trends.

What is the current scenario of the Indian Test & Measuring Instruments market?
In the coming years, India is moving from deficient to a sufficient energy economy with growing awareness of energy conservation and quality. Per capita energy consumption growth is going forward and expected to directly contribute to electrical metering business volume expansion.

Another evident trend is increasing share of digitisation. This is evident, whether with traditional panel meters at one end or power quality analysers at the other end of the metering spectrum. Digital multi-meters provide paradigm improvements with respect to measurement accuracy and control precision. Our products interact with desktop software as well as with other wireless or blue tooth connected devices including smart phones. Focus on safety has also seen huge strides in the Indian context over the last few years.

Which are the emerging areas where demand for these instruments is growing fast?
T&M instrument have application in almost all industries. This is the smart era and across all segments there is a need for complete and quick results/measurements. This has resulted in increased demand for multipurpose products. The utility sector comprising generation, transmission and distribution is and will continue to provide growth for T&M industry.

The overall growth in the power and renewable power sector will see expansions, growth in transmission and distribution and thereby fueling requirement for test and measurement products. The generation capacity is seeing an evident trend of increasing share of renewable energy especially solar. Solar industry offers one of the biggest growth potentials for test and measurement devices.
An increase in outsourcing of technical and utility services in industrial and commercial segments and these technical services vertical opens opportunities for measurement and products business. In the education sector, we focus on increasing awareness among students about safety and standards for test and measurement products.

Do you offer customisation of the instruments?
To respond to the changing needs of the customers, we have kept flexibility in our products. We understand that a pre-requisite for a successful product is that it being designed as a re-engineereable product. We have invested in R&D infrastructure, human resources and capability building consistently over the years. Our R&D facility is approved by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) and the certification lab is accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).

How do you ensure product quality and precision of the measured values of the parameters?
In our case, quality begins with direct roots to customer satisfaction focus encompassing all the relevant elements of the business value chain – such as development, design, manufacturing, marketing, and selling to after sales services.Apart from this, we are a certified ISO 9001:2008 organization and have world-class facilities to test our instruments as per IEC, DIN, IS and ANSI standards. Each device manufactured in the company goes through a stringent testing and quality check. Our QA lab is fully equipped with highly accurate calibration and testing equipment such as Datron Wavetek, Fluke, Zera, Yokogawa etc.

What kind of post-sales support do you give?
We all follow philosophy of ‘Customer First’. In addition to periodic updates through e-mailer, we have also given our customers an option to reach out to us at a nodal point electronically with their views and issues. We have engagement programs where we arrange a meets in select cities. We also often conduct in-house seminars at customer’s facility where our team provides product training.
