In this interview, Tim Hilton, President, Accurpress International Sales Ltd, Canada, focuses on trends in fabrication industry and growth plans for India.
Which end-user industries are driving your business in India?
Truck tippers, elevators, commercial kitchens, general fabricators, boutique manufacturers, ship and train builders, etc are driving demand for our products & solutions.
What is your opinion about Indian fabrication market?
It is a burgeoning market due to India’s domestic and export economies. The precision sheet metal sector is growing fastest and we have a great lineup of products to serve these customers.
As a global leader in press brakes and shears, what kind of new opportunities are you looking to tap in India? In India, what are your priorities for Accurpress at present?
We have some very affordable automated solutions that will work exceedingly well for those manufacturers who want to ride the wave of cost reductions and factory simplification that is changing the global manufacturing world.
In India, what can we expect from your company in 2020?
New generations of our three product lines – CNC press brakes, shears and turret punches – are ready for release to the Indian market. We will be rolling these products out in the coming months as well as presenting our customised automation solutions.
Could you please shed more light on some of your recent launches/innovations?
We have developed two hybrid pressbrake solutions for the middle and upper levels of the market. We also have developed an integrated auto load/unload system for our turret punches. Additionally, we have developed an auto shearing center with .001 degrees angle resolution that works wonderfully well in steel service centers. Steel service centers that cater to the automotive market are finding payback within 12 months. Additionally, we offer turn-key robotic solutions/production lines for customers with standard product lines.
Do you also serve small & medium enterprises (SMEs) - a dominate part of the Indian industry, yet a cost-conscious segment?
Yes, we do. Historically, in China 90 per cent of our products are sold to SMEs who want only the best solutions on the planet (performance, price and reliability at the best value). Now, we are focused on selling into the major markets in the region and India is at the top of our list.
Need for automation is growing across industries. How are you tapping this trend?
We are at the head of the value curve. We are building over 60 automation solutions per year, some with more than 9 machines/cells.
Are customers in India also demanding more automated/robotics features?
Yes. There is a global shift underway to automate wherever the cost/flexibility benefit can be justified. We are at the head of the sector that is making automation truly affordable to the sheet metal and fabricating industries.
What are some of the emerging trends in your industry?
Power saving features (hybrid drives), autonomous work cells, shorter cycle times, turn-key solutions are some of the trends in the industry.
What will be the focus of Accurpress at IMTEX Forming 2020?
Simply that we are here and that customers will not find a better partner. Our motto to the market is that ‘your productivity is our business’. We build our machines to offer the best blend of productivity, accuracy, reliability, initial purchase price, operator safety and total cost of ownership, all wrapped up in a classy package.
