Zeiss unveils revolutionary transparent tech for cars and smart homes

This innovative technology obviates the necessity for conspicuous cutouts or designated installation spaces for cameras and sensors, ushering in a sleek and unobtrusive design. It holds promise for integration into car parking sensors and driver fatigue detection systems.

The holocam presents an intriguing prospect for videoconferencing, where positioning it at the screen's center enables participants to establish natural eye contact. Its remarkable transparency minimally affects image reproduction.

Zeiss envisions the technology not only for entertainment but also for environmental data collection, encompassing tasks such as monitoring air pollution and UV exposure. In addition to the transparent camera, Zeiss will unveil Augmented Reality Head-Up Displays (HUDs) for cars at CES 2024, providing drivers with a seamless and safe interface for crucial information while keeping their focus on the road.

This technology transcends conventional dashboard displays, converting side and rear windows into platforms for Car2X communications, capable of blacking out window glass or displaying projected text and images visible only from specific angles.

Beyond the automotive realm, Zeiss foresees potential applications in smart homes, where holographic 3D control elements can manifest on flat surfaces, activated by gestures or voice commands. The transparent layer could also facilitate advancements in interior lighting and energy generation through sunlight absorption, opening up new possibilities for power generation in office building facades and residential windows.
