UltraTech Cement, a flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, has introduced five electric trucks for clinker transportation, marking a significant step in enhancing its 'green mobility,' according to a company filing. As part of the government's eFAST initiative, the company aims to deploy 500 electric trucks and incorporate 1,000 CNG/LNG vehicles into its fleet by June 2025.

Expressing commitment to sustainability across its operations, K C Jhanwar, Managing Director of UltraTech Cement, stated, "At UltraTech, we are committed to driving sustainability across the value chain of our operations. It is heartening that we have been able to accelerate our progress on sustainable transport."

Initially, the company will utilise the five electric trucks to transport clinker from its integrated cement manufacturing unit, Dhar Cement Works in Madhya Pradesh, to its grinding unit, Dhule Cement Works in Maharashtra. This shift from fossil-fuel-based trucks is expected to lead to a reduction of approximately 680 MT of CO2 emissions annually.

UltraTech Cement has also established three charging stations—one at each unit and one en route. Collaborating with its logistics partner, the company is gearing up to replace diesel vehicles with CNG and LNG trucks. Currently, the company operates over 390 CNG trucks and 50 LNG trucks across 17 manufacturing units.

In the December quarter, UltraTech Cement reported a 6% year-on-year increase in consolidated sales to 27.32 MT. With a consolidated capacity of 137.85 MTPA of grey cement, the company operates 23 integrated manufacturing units, 29 grinding units, one clinkerisation unit, and eight bulk packaging terminals.
