Honeywell has announced that Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and STX Offshore & Shipbuilding (STX) will use Honeywell's Integrated Automation Systems (IAS) in five vessels commissioned by ship owners in Norway, Russia and the United States. The projects are valued at more than US$8 million.
DSME, the world's second largest shipbuilder, and STX, the world's fourth largest shipbuilder, will use IAS in vessels under construction for the transportation of liquid natural gas (LNG). DSME is building the industry's largest advanced floating storage and re-gasification unit capable of delivering 20 million cubic meters per day of natural gas to South-Eastern Brazil.
The IAS solution uses Honeywell's Experion? Process Knowledge System (PKS), and will manage the machinery and cargo areas of the vessels, including the cargo emergency shutdown system. Honeywell's solution enables the project teams to better manage and control operations and ensure that the vessels comply with strict global standards. Honeywell has successfully delivered more than 100 integrated automation systems for all types of carriers, and is currently engineering the industry's first LNG floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit.
