The machine tool sector is growing with rise in automation: Hrishikesh B Sawant

Automation, involving robots for production using digital tools like robots, cobots, artificial intelligence and 3D printing are the need of the modern market. We provide systems that are compatible with most of the automations. We have been approached by top industries for their requirements due to our robust marketing programmes as highlighted earlier, explores, Hrishikesh B Sawant, Director, C. And C. Laser Engineering Pvt Ltd in an interview with Rakesh Rao .

C. And C. Laser Engineering Pvt Ltd, founded in 2019, specialises in scientific and industrial laser products. With over 35 years of hands-on experience in laser system installation, maintenance, and services. The company offers advanced systems for laser marking, engraving, cutting, micro-machining, welding, and more. Its scientific laser products support applications such as synchronized laser pumping, interferometry, biological imaging, material processing research, macromolecule studies, fibre diagnostics, LIBS, laser flash photolysis, and LIDAR.

How is your company serving the manufacturing & machine tools sectors?
Every tool and other manufacturing product should have a permanent identification. This identity would also include the manufacturing history – in the form of a barcode, or it could be a batch code with a serial number. These identities should be unique and permanent with an aesthetic look. This can only be achieved with laser marking machine that C. And C. Laser Engineering Pvt. Ltd. masters in. There are many manufacturing industries which require lasers as a part of their production, not only for the identification marks but also for other process during manufacturing. Laser micro-machining, cladding and 3D printing, are few such processes which go hand in hand with the actual manufacturing process in any industry.

How do you analyse the status of the Indian machine tools industry at present?
The Indian machine tool industry is currently growing, with a number of factors contributing to its expansion. The market size for the Indian machine tool market was valued at $1.5 billion in 2023, and is expected to reach $3.2 billion by 2032 with the growth rate expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.2% from 2024 to 2032.  The industry is growing due to the increasing adoption of industrial automation, smart factory concepts, and Industry 4.0 technologies. There is always the demand for advanced technologies like CNC lathes, CNC routers, milling machines, and more which is growing. In addition, lasers are being used along with the mechanical tools to have a combined system. These new opportunities need to be catered to, by the new laser technology.

What are the USPs of your technologies?
C. And C. Laser Engineering Pvt Ltd provides lasers as well as laser based marking, engraving, micro-machining systems and the services for such applications. The technology of laser marking is demanding because the processing method is a non-contact procedure, but it is permanent. Lasers can mark on all metals, non-metals, regardless of the part being bare, painted, powder-coated, anodized or hardened. Laser marking machines can mark 2D barcodes for identification where in the user can add the entire history of the production of the part into a code that can as small as possible. The identification marking being non-contact, permanent & personalised is the USP of our systems. There are many processes that require the least amount of heat being imparted to the object to be processed. We can achieve this objective with ultrafast femtosecond and picosecond lasers. We use very high-power fibre lasers for cutting and welding.

How do you intend to tap the automotive & auto component industries - the major users of machine tools?
We have been a regularly exhibiting in various laser shows enabling us to cater to various industries.  We create awareness of our products and services by periodically advertising in subject related magazine like Smart Manufacturing Enterprises. We have marketing team that implements strategies to highlight our product features in various industries. We have been implementing conventional marketing techniques apart from digital marketing. On the digital front, we have optimised our website www.cnclaserengg search engines for top keywords. Our YouTube channel features videos that highlight our services and products. We have a strong presence on social media such as LinkedIn, Facebook.

The automotive and auto component industries are expected to grow due to the increasing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) and sustainable mobility solutions, some opportunities for the auto component industry - focus on EVs, develop data-enabled services, form partnerships, expanding portfolio with adjacent industries

How do you plan to tap other end-user for future business growth?
C. And C. Laser Engineering Pvt Ltd. has established itself as a one-stop centre for all kinds of laser solutions through our marketing skills and expertise. We have been exploring various industries on regular basis as we have the repertoire to offer innovative and practical solutions be it a prototype of a large production run. With our gamut of experience and an exhaustive range of laser technology, we can provide world class laser-based systems and laser services. Lasers are used all over the world in the railways industry – lasers have many uses in the railway industry, which include cleaning tracks, inspecting tracks, measuring trains and vehicles, measuring contact wires, measuring carriage inclination and movement, measuring track width, measuring rolling surfaces.

Lasers have many uses in the defence industry, which include marking, cutting, micromachining, laser weapons and laser communication. Lasers are used in the electronics industry for many purposes, which include marking, welding, cutting, drilling and surface texturing. Lasers are a good fit for the electronics industry because they are precise, reliable, and can operate non-contact. They are also cost-effective and economical in the long run as laser machines are fault resistant and can be operated for long periods of time.

How are you planning to tap recent trends like AI, automation and sustainability? Which other trends are visible in the machine tool & accessories industry?
Automation, involving robots for production using digital tools like robots, cobots, artificial intelligence and 3D printing are the need of the modern market. As mentioned earlier, C. And C. Laser Engineering Pvt Ltd provides systems that are compatible with most of the automations. We have been approached by top industries for their requirements due to our robust marketing programmes as highlighted earlier.

What are your growth plans for the company in the coming years?
C. And C. Laser Engineering Pvt Ltd will be starting a laser manufacturing & repair CO2 centre in India by mid of 2025. The centre would also be manufacturing lasers, provide extensive service for the lasers manufactured by us and also for most of the lasers manufactured by our principal companies. C. And C. Laser Engineering Pvt Ltd plans to install IR-GR-UV-CO2 (nanosecond, picosecond, and femtosecond) laser marking, engraving, micro-machining, welding, and cutting systems all under one roof, very shortly.
