Tatas to establish overseas defence factory in Morocco

Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) is set to establish India’s first overseas defence manufacturing plant in Casablanca, Morocco. This facility will produce Wheeled Armoured Platforms for the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and aims to tap into the broader African defence market. This initiative marks a significant entry for Tata into the expanding African defence sector.

The new factory will manufacture the Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP), an amphibious infantry combat vehicle designed for versatile terrain navigation. With a production capacity of 100 combat vehicles per year, the plant is expected to be operational within a year, with the first WhAPs anticipated to be delivered within 18 months. These vehicles are already in limited service with the Indian Army and have been deployed along the Ladakh border.

"This contract is of significant size and holds strategic importance for TASL," remarked Sukaran Singh, CEO and Managing Director, TASL.
