Tata Electronics signs MoU with Tokyo Electron for semiconductor equipment

Tata Electronics has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tokyo Electron (TEL), a leading global supplier of semiconductor equipment, to procure equipment and services for its upcoming semiconductor facilities in Gujarat and Assam. This partnership also includes workforce training on TEL equipment and support for ongoing research and development initiatives.

Tata Electronics is constructing India's first semiconductor fabrication unit (Fab) in Dholera, Gujarat, with an investment of Rs 910 billion. Additionally, the company is setting up an assembly and testing facility for semiconductor chips in Jagiroad, Assam, with an investment of Rs 270 billion.

These facilities will manufacture semiconductor chips for a wide range of applications, including automotive, mobile devices, and artificial intelligence (AI), serving both domestic and global markets.

Randhir Thakur, CEO, Tata Electronics emphasised the importance of TEL's expertise in building a robust ecosystem to support the timely launch of the Fab and packaging facilities. Toshiki Kawai, CEO, TEL President and highlighted the collaboration's focus on both front-end fabrication and back-end packaging technologies, aiming to accelerate innovation and development across multiple technology sectors.

In addition, TEL plans to leverage India's talent pool to establish an engineering service in the country to support its global product development efforts.
